Frequently-Asked Questions
Here are some answers to questions frequently asked about Ricochet protective film. If you have a question that is not answered, please feel free to email or call us for more information.
Can I use an isopropyl alcohol based product to install or clean my Ricochet?
You should never use alcohol on Ricochet vinyls. Murcury Quicksilver, who build inflatable boats with very similar material to the Ricochet vinyl, state in their manual "Waxes or cleaners containing alcohol SHOULD NOT BE USED on the boat fabric. Alcohol will prematurely dry out the boat fabric." The same is true for Ricochet vinyls.
I have Ricochet installed on my car. Is there anything special I should do to care for the product?
Ricochet is like any other vinyl or leather product. It should be kept clean with mild soap and water, and treated with a UV inhibiting vinyl polish (see www.303-products.com) or carnuba wax. Avoid harsh chemicals such as alcohol, gasoline or acetone. If the product is kept clean and conditioned at least twice a year, the Ricochet vinyl will retain its appearance for years.
Is Ricochet protective film easy to install?
Ricochet can be installed dry or using a positioning fluid. With the aid of a heat gun, it will conform to gentle curves and indentations. Ricochet can also be scored without marking the substrate it is applied to.
I installed Ricochet on my bumper and I have white spots and a few bubbles remaining under the film. What do I do about this?
This is normal. The vinyl is breathable and the moisture and air bubbles will evaporate through the film in a couple days. The warmer your vehicle is kept during this time, the faster the evaporation will occur. Park your vehicle in the sun or in a warm garage, and the film will look perfect in a very short time.
Is Ricochet protective film easy to remove?
Yes. The adhesive has been formulated especially to be removable if necessary. Simply start one edge and slowly peel the film off the substrate. If any adhesive stays behind, it can be tacked off with another peice of tape, or disolved with mineral spirits.
